Robbery suspects heldpending federal charges
ERIE, Pa. (AP) -- Two men suspected of robbing a bank were being held in Erie County Prison on Sunday, pending charges and arraignment before a federal magistrate. Ferris Page, 42, and Don Caplea, 32, both of Erie, were arrested by the FBI, according to police. They face federal bank robbery charges when they are charged and arraigned today.
Authorities said one of the suspects walked into North West Savings Bank on Saturday morning and handed a note to a teller demanding money. The note ordered the teller to turn over the money or she would be harmed. The man walked out of the bank with $6,000 while employees triggered the alarm. It was unclear which of the suspects demanded the money or how investigators linked both men.
Many bank customers said they didn't know the branch was robbed until after the teller told other bank employees to lock the door. "He stayed pretty quiet," said Al Dixon, who was waiting in line for the teller when the robber struck.
