Man dies in accident
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Youngstown man is dead after a two-car accident Saturday morning on the city's North Side.
Lee R. Poindexter, 46, of 273 Norwood Avenue was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center after the 1980 GMC Caballero he was driving was hit broadside by a 1988 Chevy Beretta driven by 41-year-old Michael B. Korhan. The accident occurred at the intersection of Elm Street and Saranac Avenue around 8:30 a.m.
Poindexter died in the hospital emergency room, said St. Elizabeth personnel. Neither St. Elizabeth nor Northside Hospital has any record of Korhan being treated.
Police reports show that Korhan was driving the vehicle with a suspended driver's license.
Flu, pneumonia shots
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown City Health District staff will administer flu and pneumonia shots to the public from 8:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Oak Hill Renaissance Center, 345 Oak Hill Ave., second floor.
No appointment is necessary. Flu shots are $10; pneumonia shots, $15. There is no charge for people who are Medicare Part B cardholders.
Christmas celebrationplanned in Volant
VOLANT, Pa. -- An old-fashioned Christmas on Main Street is planned for Saturday and Nov. 11 in Volant. There will be a pancake and sausage breakfast Saturday at the Volant Fire Hall. The weekend also will include a breakfast with Santa Claus.
The Lawrence County Brass Band, a harp recital, a strolling mime and Santa Claus will be the entertainment throughout the day.
