Mail program helps boost morale of troops during war

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Christmas 2001 Military Mail campaign is seeking participants for this year's effort to send mail to military personnel around the world.
Youngstown area groups and individuals recognized for their participation in the 2000 Military Mail Campaign are: Beloit Elementary School, led by Cheryl Woolman of Salem; Goshen Center Elementary School, Salem, led by Shelley Cingcade; Kathy Lutseck, Vienna; John J. Buckley Post 1292 Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary, led by its president, Anne M. Hosa; and St. Stanislaus Post 1222 Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary, led by Marie Rydar.
Under the military mail campaign, letters to military personnel are sent by individuals and organizations to a central location, Friends of Our Troops, P.O. Box 65408, Fayetteville, N.C. 28306. The letters are then redistributed in packages, from just a few for small units up to thousands for bases or large Navy ships, said G.B. Wiser, executive director.

The campaign began in 1965 as the Vietnam Mail Call program.
