COMPETITION Toastmasters win speech awards

YOUNGSTOWN -- Members of Youngstown Executive Toastmasters Club Chapter 408 participated in two competitions recently.
The Division A level fall speech contest was held Oct. 6, with chapter members Miki Thomas of Youngstown and Mike Gerrick of Warren named as winners.
Results: Thomas received first prize with an impromptu speech classified as "Table Topics" on the subject "Loyalty." Gerrick won in the humor division for his childhood memoir speech titled "The Artful Dodger."
The two then competed in the district championship contests held Oct. 16 and 27 at the Radisson Hotel in Middleburg Heights, where Thomas competed with the impromptu topic "It's a Jangle Out There!" and Gerrick brought home the first-place trophy for his "Dodger" speech. This marked the first time since its inception in 1966 that a member of the local chapter has won first prize.
Thomas is a Balance in Life trainer and professional speaker, and Gerrick is employed as regional manager of Champion Laboratory in the heavy-duty truck industry.
