YOUNGSTOWN Man held in rape, beating

The woman was kidnapped from the Salem area and held in Youngstown.

YOUNGSTOWN -- A man accused of kidnapping his former girlfriend and beating her so badly that he feared she'd bleed to death was arraigned Friday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
Alonzo J. Green, 26, of Superior Street, pleaded innocent to two counts of rape and single counts of kidnapping and felonious assault. Judge Maureen A. Cronin set bond at $175,000. Green was being held in the county jail awaiting trial.
Green, who said he's a member of the Naval Reserve and a father of five, was secretly indicted last week by a county grand jury.
Assistant Prosecutor Deena Calabrese said Green kidnapped the 18-year-old woman from her Salem-area home in April and drove her to an abandoned building in Youngstown, where he held her captive for several days.
Severity of injuries: He raped and severely beat the woman during the period of captivity, causing significant injuries, Calabrese said.
"She was beaten so severely that she couldn't see, that's how bad it was," Calabrese said. She said more charges could be filed in Columbiana County.
At one point, Green became so concerned about the victim's bleeding from her injuries that he feared she would bleed to death, so he took her for medical treatment, Calabrese said.
"He threw her out of a car in front of St. Elizabeth [Health Center] and just kept on going," Calabrese said.
