Spring turkey seasonsets another record
COLUMBUS -- Hunters in Ohio harvested a record 26,217 wild turkeys during the spring hunting season April 23 through May 13, a 29 percent increase from last spring's results. It was the 24th consecutive year for a record turkey harvest in Ohio, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife.
State wildlife biologists estimate Ohio's wild turkey population at more than 200,000 birds. Last year, hunters killed 20,276 wild turkeys during spring turkey season.
This year's preliminary total represents an increase of 5,941 over last year. Four counties broke the 1,000-bird mark, with Ashtabula County checking in with 1,108, Guernsey with 1,101, Muskingum 1,039 and Coshocton with 1,007.
Ohio's fall turkey hunting season runs October 13-28 in 32 counties.

PENNSYLVANIA
Trout meetings slated
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission has announced three more public meetings to discuss the future of fishing in the Commonwealth, with a particular focus on one of the state's most prized game fish - trout.
Meetings have been set for: June 19, in Monroeville at the Pitcairn-Monroeville Sportsmen's Club, June 21, in Williamsport at the Radisson, June 26, in York at the York County Penn State Cooperative Extension. All three meetings will run from 7-9 p.m.
Among the topics to be discussed are reductions in trout stockings for 2002.
