Fight against hunger
BERLIN CENTER -- Youth groups at Berlin Center United Methodist church recently raised $1,100 during the "30 Hour Famine." The youths presented checks to Harvest For Hunger organization, Youngstown Rescue Mission and Youngstown United Methodist Community Center for amounts of $366 last Sunday. The presentation was part of the annual awards program recognizing the youth involved in the church's Wednesday night "Jonah's Mates" programs.
New pastor installed
NEW SPRINGFIELD -- Emmanuel Lutheran Church will install a new pastor, Frank Podolinski Jr., at the 10:45 a.m. service Sunday.
He, his wife, Alice, and two children are coming from Greensburg, Pa. The Rev. Mr. Podolinski has a degree in music education from Seton Hill College in Greensburg and a master's of divinity from Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg.
Nairobi pastor talk
GREENVILLE -- Pastor Jonah Oboyno of the 12,000-member City Victory Church, Nairobi, Kenya, will be the guest speaker at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. services Sunday at Living Word Christian Center.
The Rev. Mr. Oboyno is known throughout Kenya and East Africa. He is a personal assistant to a bishop who oversees a network of more than 600 churches. His appearance is part of the local church's effort to expand thinking about building the kingdom of God.
Women's day
YOUNGSTOWN -- Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church will have its annual Women's Day at its 11 a.m. service June 3. Guest speaker will be Sarah Brown-Clark, city clerk of courts.
Men's, Women's Day
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Rev. Ronald A. George will be the speaker at the 11 a.m. Men's and Women's Day service Sunday at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.
Attendance Crusade
YOUNGSTOWN -- Centenary United Methodist Church will feature the Worship Attendance Crusade 2001 during a service at 11 a.m. June 3.
Catholic collections
YOUNGSTOWN -- Catholics in the Diocese of Youngstown can make donations to the Church at Home Combined Collection on June 2 and 3. The annual collection provides money for three ministries of the church in the U.S.: Catholic Campaign for Human Development, Catholic Communications and Catholic University of America and Newman Apostolates.

A night of song
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mount Vernon Baptist Church and the Helping Other Women group is sponsoring an evening of song and praise at 6 p.m. June 2 at Friends House Chapel Church, 192 Hazeltine Ave.
An offering will be collected. Musicians and singing artists will include Julia Welch, Orenda Johnson, Rev. Martha Taylor, the Whitney Tripletts, Cynthia Walker, Darlene Wilson, Mime Ministries, Spiritual Education and Evangelist Lenora Walker.

New chaplains at Tobin
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Tobin Center Chaplaincy Board has appointed John and Daryl Hersh, directors of Ozer Ministries in East Palestine, as center chaplains. They will start Friday. They will continue their private work.
