Mechanics are hospitalized after accident in their garage
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Police said two mechanics were injured when a truck they had repaired drove over them at a private garage on South Keel Ridge Road.
Michael D. Czerr, 41, of South Keel Ridge Road, and John C. Evans III, 36, of Oak Leaf Estates, West Middlesex, employed at Gassner Bros., a repair garage, had just repaired the brakes on a large delivery truck owned by Susi & amp; Sons of Lamor Road and crawled back underneath to check their work around 9:50 a.m. Thursday, police said.
The truck driver, Michael Cullen, 45, of Hempfield Road, Greenville, said the only way to build air pressure back up in the air brake system was to start the vehicle.
He told police the mechanics told him to start the vehicle when they were underneath.
However, the truck transmission was still in gear when he started the engine, and the vehicle moved forward, rolling over both Czerr and Evans, police said.
Both men were taken to UPMC Horizon in Farrell, where Czerr was reported in good condition. Evans was transferred to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh and was in fair condition early today.
