Western Reserve's tourney wait continues

BERLIN CENTER -- It might go down as the longest softball game in history.
Western Reserve High and Loudonville were to meet for the Division IV district championship at Brookside Park in Ashland last Friday, but rain forced the game to be postponed until Saturday.
The field was deemed unplayable, however, and tournament officials resisted playing the game on Sunday, so it was moved to Monday.
More spring thunderstorms forced another cancellation Monday, and the game was moved to Genshaft Park in Massillon, where it is scheduled for today at 4:30 p.m.
The winner of the game will advance to the Kent State regional Wednesday.
Hubbard 5, Champion 4: CHAMPION -- Kelly Hurdy had two hits, including a run-producing double, as Hubbard (13-10) beat Champion in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game.
Champion (23-3) and Lakeview tied for the conference championship at 14-2. Those teams split their regular season games.
Hurdy had a double in the third to tie the score at 2.
