Perfect records on line in bouts

The K.O. Drugs high school tournament continues Wednesday at Liberty.
LIBERTY -- The fourth night of the K.O. Drugs High School Boxing Tournament features semifinals with 36 bouts, on Wednesday at the old Liberty High gymnasium
Fourteen of the bouts, which begin at 7 p.m., will feature matchups of undefeated fighters.
The final bout of the evening, for heavyweights competing in the upperclass, will have two of the tournament's best big men battling -- Austintown Fitch's Chris Koval and Warren Harding's Prescott Burgess.
History: Koval, a senior, is a three-year football player for the Falcons and a three-time champion in the K.O. Drugs tournament.
Burgess, an all-conference football and basketball player at Warren Harding, has moved up from the underclass division and will match Koval's 2-0 record.
Koval is one of six Fitch boxers on Wednesday's card and Burgess one of four Warren Harding fighters; all of them are undefeated thus far.
Six Campbell Memorial boxers on the card have a combined 9-2 record in the tournament, and Poland has 10 fighters who are a combined 18-1.
Others fights will feature Greg Simcox (2-0) from Poland facing Tony Skillas (2-0) from Campbell Memorial, and Keith Thompson (2-0) from Lakeview facing Ursuline's only tournament representative, Rob Smaltz (2-0), in two upperclass light-heavyweight bouts.
In a pair of upperclass middleweight bouts, undefeated Woodrow Wilson fighters, Floyd Ward and Dwayne Pompey, go against Campbell Memorial's Albert Holland and Austintown Fitch's Gary Johnson, who are also undefeated.
Two underclass fighters, both 2-0 who are among the best punchers in this tournament, are Liberty's Mike Marvin, a super-middleweight, and Cardinal Mooney's John Loew, a junior welterweight.
Up next: Underclass fighters Tylon Cousin from Keystone and Jeremiah Hill from Struthers are waiting in the wings to fight in next week's heavyweight and super-heavyweight championship bouts against this week's winners.
In the upperclass, one title bout is already set for May 30. The featherweight crown will be decided between Hubbard's Justin Wess and Jerry Kendall from Reynolds.
