Mental health vigil

Mental health vigil
WARREN -- A prayer vigil will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the gazebo on Courthouse Square to commemorate mental health month. The event is sponsored by Trumbull Lifelines, formerly the Trumbull County Board of Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health.
Danger of falling
The first two weeks after a hospital stay pose the biggest risk of falling for elderly patients, a University of Wisconsin Medical School study has found.
Among 311 patients age 65 and older, the rate of falls in the first two weeks after hospitalization was 8 per 1,000 person days, more than four times the rate three months later, Dr. Jane E. Mahoney reported in the Archives of Internal Medicine.
"Given the high rate of post-hospital falls and associated high morbidity and costs, efforts to assess and modify risk factors should be integral to the hospital and post-hospital care of older adults," she said.
Autonomy tops list
When researchers at the University of Missouri at Columbia asked college students from the United States and South Korea what made them the happiest, money and glory were far down the list.
The top four things that made them the happiest were autonomy (feeling that your activities are self-chosen and self-endorsed), competence (feeling that you are effective in your activities), relatedness (feeling a sense of closeness with others) and self-esteem, psychologist Kennon M. Sheldon reported in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
