A chair like Papa's
Now Hemingway fans can share fish stories while perched on replicas of a mahogany chair from the author's fishing boat. Papa Hemingway used the chair while chasing down and fighting marlin off Cuba on board the Pilar, a 38-foot Wheeler Playmate painted "pirate black."
Thomasville's "Pilar Fighting Chair," which comes with an adjustable footrest (not to mention gimbals, to stabilize a gyroscope, fishing rod -- or a rum-laced mojito, a Hemingway favorite), is being marketed as a bar stool. It will be available in late July at Thomasville Home Furnishings stores in Alexandria, Va., and Fairfax, Va.
The original is still at the Hemingway house museum, Finca Vigia, near Havana.
The chair's suggested retail price is about $1,300. There's a matching pub table, for about $1,600. Marlin not included.
