VETERANS
3 from area visit Korea
Three area Korean War veterans are part of a contingent of 25 veterans of the so-called "forgotten war" invited by the Korean War Veterans Association in Seoul, Korea, to see Korea again 50 years later under the Korea Revisit Program. Korean War veterans and war correspondents of the 21 nations that assisted the Republic of Korea between June 25, 1950, and July 27, 1953, are eligible along with their spouses, sons and daughters. The area veterans, all members of Korean War Veterans Association Mahoning Valley Chapter 137, are Robert Bakalik, Richard W. Koker and Charles A. Stepan, all of Youngstown. Accompanied by Stepan's wife, they left Youngstown for Korea on May 13 and were to leave that nation Saturday, according to Koker. They were scheduled to visit Seoul, Panmunjom, the country's War Memorial Monument and others places of interest in Korea. On their last night, they were to receive the Korean War Medal.
