FARRELL Events to celebrate city's 100th year

Farrell's Centennial Committee is looking for advertisers and participants.
FARRELL, Pa. -- City officials are is looking for people and groups to participate in the celebration of the city's 100th anniversary.
A variety of events are being planned for the celebration, which will run July 10 through 14 and mark Farrell's 1901 incorporation. Before then, Farrell was known as South Sharon.
Among the events is a parade, and the committee organizing the celebration is looking for parade participants. Local marching bands, fire and safety units are among those invited to march in the parade.
Also, spaces for food vendors are available. To reserve a spot in the parade or for a food booth, call (724) 981-2776.
All events, except for the parade, will be on the grounds of Farrell area schools on Roemer Boulevard.
Book planned: The committee will also publish a Centennial Book.
"It's the history of Farrell -- the first 100 years -- in pictures and words," said City Manager LaVon Saternow.
Advertising for the Centennial Book will be accepted until Friday. In addition to full, half- and quarter-page ads, patron or memorial listings are available for $10.
The revenue generated from the sale of ads will go toward publication costs in order to reduce the price of the book for buyers. The price of the Centennial Book has yet to be determined. It will be on sale during the celebration.
Activities: Rides, food booths, fireworks, music, awards programs, a dance and a parade are also scheduled for the Centennial Celebration.
Mayor William Morocco, the chairman of the Farrell Centennial Committee, is looking forward to the festivities.
"We're hoping that neighboring communities feel free to come and enjoy the events," Morocco said. "It's a point of enjoyment for everybody in the Valley."
