ARMED FORCES Honorees

Other recipients of 2001 outstanding reservists, guardsmen and cadets' honors at Thursday's Armed Forces Day Awards luncheon in Youngstown:
Air Force Reserve Technical Sgt. Ronald L. Mines is also USAF Reserve Security Force NCO of 2000. He is a security specialist with the 910th Airlift Wing. Mines, of Warren, graduated from Lakeview High School in 1985 and is studying criminal justice at Youngstown State University.
Marine Corps Reserve Lance Cpl. Douglas S. Bevington, engineer equipment operator with the 4th Force Service Support Group at Youngstown Air Reserve Station. He lives in Beaver Falls, is studying business management at Geneva College, and is a sales consultant with Preston Chrysler and Jeep of Beaver Falls.
Navy Reserve Petty Officer 1st Class James D. Mason of Salem is assigned with Navy Reserve Comusnavcent Detachment 109 and is the reserve center's anti-terrorism training officer. He works at Church Budget Monthly Main Co. in Salem.
Army Reserve Spec. Bernard V. Slider III of Cuyahoga Falls is a legal clerk in the personnel section of the 423rd Quartermaster Battalion, Kunkel Army Reserve Center, Lordstown. He also works at Interstate Brands Corp. Wonder Bread plant in Akron.
Ohio Army National Guard Spec. Ellis R. Broughton of Portsmouth, Ohio, is assigned at Ravenna Training and Logistics Site in the engineering section. He also works at Thompson Petroleum in Portsmouth.
Lt. Col. Henry E. Himes III of Hubbard, an Army Reserve Officer Training Corps Cadet. He graduated in 1997 from Hubbard High School and will graduate Saturday from Youngstown State University with a bachelor's degree in geography, history and military science. He will be commissioned a second lieutenant and assigned to Fort Lewis, Wash.
Maj. William Hrinko, an Air Force Civil Air Patrol Cadet and a junior at Austintown Fitch High School. He has special training in ground search and rescue. He plans to study architecture at Kent State University.
Sgt. Maj. Jerome Higgs, an Army Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps Cadet and a sophomore at The Rayen School. He has received 16 JROTC medals for academic, athletic and military events. He also volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club of Youngstown and plans to either enroll at YSU or join the military and pursue a career in law enforcement.
