YOUNGSTOWN City council
Council handled these issues Wednesday:
Unanimously passed an ordinance designating the land between the South Avenue and Market Street Bridges as the site for the proposed new convocation center.
Appropriated $50,000 from the city's general fund to the Youngstown Symphony Society. The money is to renovate Edward W. Powers Auditorium for an arts center for school-age children. Councilman Artis Gillam Sr., D-1st, said council is to pass additional legislation providing an additional $200,000 for the project from federal Community Development Block Grants.
Appropriated $58,760 toward construction of a new bridge on Walton Avenue providing access to industrial land on the Mahoning River.
Sent to the planning commission a proposed amendment to the city's group home licensing law, which would increase the minimum distance between group homes from 1,000 feet to 2,000 feet. This would affect only new group homes.
Waived water and sewer tap-ins and street-cut fees for the new Dollar General Store at 3613 Market St.
Appropriated $48,500 to the municipal court drug court program.
