MUSKINGUM Three area softball players are in College World Series

Tami Anglin, Erin Zupko and Angie Burnside and their Muskingum teammates open play today in Eau Claire, Wis.
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- Three Youngstown-area softball players for Muskingum College are in the NCAA Division III College World Series.
Tami Anglin (Springfield), Erin Zupko (Liberty) and Angie Burnside (Canfield) are standouts with the Fighting Muskies for the tournament at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Muskingum qualified for the double-elimination national meet by beating Denison, 6-0, Sunday to win the Central Regional championship.
Open today: The Muskies (43-6), coached by Donna Newberry, were to open play today at 5 p.m. against William Paterson (N.J.) University (33-7).
This is Muskingum's third trip to national competition, They also qualified in 1992 and 1998, going winless and 2-2 for fourth place, respectively.
Anglin, a junior catcher, and Zupko, a freshman left-fielder, both made the All-Ohio Athletic Conference first team; while Burnside, a sophomore pitcher, was on the second-team.
Statistics: Burnside has a 14-2 record, 1.93 earned run average and 29 strikeouts in 1912/3 innings. She has given up 104 hits, 28 earned runs and 24 walks.
Anglin is a part-time starter with a .398 batting average (37-for-93), third-best on the team. She also has seven homers -- No. 2 on the team -- with 22 RBIs and eight doubles. Zupko is batting .272 (31-for-114), with nine RBIs, 25 runs, one homer, two triples, four doubles and five walks.
