NORTH LIMA -- The South Range High softball team scored six runs in the third inning and went on to defeat United 7-0 in a Division III district softball semifinal game Wednesday at the Green-Beaver Complex.
Nine batters went to the plate for the Raiders in the third, with Kristen Powers' double driving in three runs.
Winning pitcher Jenn Toth singled home a run, while Niki Knopp's sacrifice bunt drove in a run.
Toth (13-10) scattered three hits, struck out nine and didn't walk a batter to pick up the win.
She went 2-for-4 and scored once for the Raiders.
South Range was to play Garrettsville Garfield today for the district championship at the Green Beaver Complex at 5 p.m.
Garfield 10, LaBrae 4: NORTH LIMA -- Krista Foy, Jessica Rockwood, Michelle Hetzel and Megan Polifrone each had three hits to lead Garrettsville Garfield.
Foy and Polifrone each had three RBIs for Garrettsville (14-7).
Garfield scored four runs in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead and was in front 8-0 before the Vikings did all their scoring in the sixth.
Joy Hartman, Andrea Gibson, Jackie Henderson and Amanda Wiegan each had two hits for the Vikings (11-7).
Champion 8, Ash. Harbor 0: ORWELL -- Jessica Carpenter had three hits with a double as Champion scored all its runs in bunches in a Div. III district softball semifinal Wednesday.
Today at 4:30 p.m. at Grand Valley Middle School, Champion (22-2) will meet Middlefield Cardinal for the district title.
Senior Molly Barnes (11-1) held the Mariners to just two hits and struck out six.
Champion scored three times in the third and then tallied five runs with two outs in the fourth.
The Golden Flashes strung together four straight hits following an error in the third to make it 3-0.
Barnes also had a double.
