Indians will have 3 affiliates within 100 miles of the city

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians have announced that they will not renew their player development contract with the Class-A Columbus (Ga.) RedStixx. The contract will expire after the 2002 season.
Cleveland announced it would make an Eastlake, Ohio, franchise its Class A affiliate in 2003.
Kip Horsburgh is the prospective owner of a Class A franchise that would relocate to Eastlake.
Agreement: Horsburgh reached an agreement to buy the Quad City Bandits, the Minnesota Twins Class A affiliate in the Midwest League. His purchase must be approved by the Midwest League, Minor League Baseball and Major League Baseball.
That would put three of the Indians' affiliates within 100 miles of Cleveland. The others are the Mahoning Valley Scrappers (Class-A short season) and Akron Aeros (Double A).
The RedStixx will remain in Columbus, Ga., but will become an affiliate of a different major league team.
The Indians also have affiliates in Burlington, N.C. (Rookie League), Kinston, N.C. (Class A) and Buffalo, N.Y. (Triple A).
