DIV. IV BASEBALL Bombers' McClurg snuffs J-M

The Bluejays took it on the chin, 11-0, from Windham in a district semifinal.

STRUTHERS -- Windham pitcher Davidjohn McClurg tossed a three-hit, 10-strikeout shutout as the Bombers defeated Jackson-Milton 11-0 in boys Division IV district semifinal game Tuesday at Cene Park.
Windham will face South Range for the district title tonight at Cene at 6:30 p.m.
Left-fielder Tony Marstiller, the Bombers' number-nine hitter went 4-for-4 with three triples and four RBIs as Windham improved to 13-6.
Jackson-Milton completed its season at 13-10. Keith McVey suffered the loss, his first in four decisions.
Good hitter: Windham coach Jerry Kiser said, "Tony [Marstiller] has been playing well and is hitting .407. I wanted to move him up in the batting order, but its tough to break up a winning combination."
The victory was the Bombers' sixth in a row.
Marstiller's first triple drove in the first run in the second inning, before the Windham sent 10 batters to the plate and scored five times in the third inning.
Ricky Viebranz had a two-run single to highlight the uprising.
Padded lead: Windham scored two runs in the fifth inning with two outs, when Marstiller and James Lade had back-to-back triples and Ced Turner singled to increase the lead to 8-0.
The Bombers added three more runs in the sixth inning on Marstiller's fourth hit, his third triple up the left-center field gap.
McClurg improved hits pitching record to 3-3 with the shutout striking out two batters in each of the first four innings.
Go-to pitcher: "He [McClurg] is a guy we go with in the big games. He struggled early, but is really coming on strong."
Windham is expected to pitch Lade (7-0) in the district final. The Bombers also have another pitcher Drew Apthorpe, who was the winner in a Portage County League third-place playoff game Monday.
Windham's starting lineup includes only two seniors.
