NEWTON FALLS -- A Newton Falls man has pleaded innocent to a misdemeanor bigamy charge.
Randy Jarvis, 40, of Mahoning Court, entered the plea Tuesday in municipal court. He is free on $1,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. May 31.
City Prosecutor Richard Swartz said Tammy Jarvis told the court that she married Jarvis in March and then found out in April that he was still legally married to a woman in California.
Sub shop robbery
NILES -- A gunman got away with an undetermined amount of cash Tuesday night from the Subway shop, 6261 Youngstown-Warren Road.
Police reported that a man walked in about 8:15 p.m., pulled a gun and ordered the clerk to the floor.
Block watch meeting
GIRARD -- Councilman Thomas Grumley has called a 4th Ward block watch meeting for 6 p.m. today at the community center.
Camp Fire gets fundsfor science program
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning Valley Northeast Ohio Camp Fire Council has received an $11,690 Ohio Environmental Education Fund grant through the Ohio EPA to develop an interactive summer program to help 45 inner-city pupils ages 5 to 10 improve their science grades.
The program will emphasize the human and environmental interrelationship through topics such as geology and topology, grasslands, wetlands, deserts, skulls and skeletons, energy, reptiles, habitats and careers.
Nutrition professorto speak to nurses
BOARDMAN -- The Licensed Practical Nurse Association of Mahoning and Trumbull counties will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in The Greenbrier, 8064 South Ave.
The program will be on nutrition, weight loss and physical fitness, presented by Dr. Mohammad R. Shayesteh, professor of clinical nutrition at Youngstown State University.
Cost is $2 for members and $4 for nonmembers.

Doctor to presentkids safety program
AUSTINTOWN -- Dr. Michael P. Weaver will have a health, safety and environmental awareness day for children from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at his office, 1130 S. Canfield-Niles Road.
There will be information on crime prevention, child safety and environmental awareness, along with special ID cards and fingerprinting by the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department.
In addition, there will be an appearance by McGruff the Crime Dog and Pete the YSU Penguin. The fire department will bring a firetruck and teach fire safety tips to children.
There will be free spinal examinations and scoliosis screening and information about disease prevention and health issues that affect children.
Flags for vets' graves
BOARDMAN -- Families and friends of veterans buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery on Market Street should pick up flag holders and markers to be put on graves before Saturday when flags will be placed on graves by members of veterans organizations.
MammoVan will beat Relay for Life event
