Interviews conclude

YOUNGSTOWN -- The first of four finalists for Youngstown State University provost concludes two days of campus interviews and meetings today.
Dr. Tony Atwater, dean of the College of Professional Studies and Education at Northern Kentucky University, was to meet this afternoon for a final interview with President David Sweet.
The interview will conclude two days of meetings with students, faculty, community members, trustees and YSU administrators.
The other finalists for the job are Dr. Mary Ellen Mazey, dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Wright State University, who will be on campus Thursday and Friday; Dr. Rochelle Kelz, dean of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University-Kokomo campus, who will be on campus Monday and May 22; and Dr. Braja Das, dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at California State University-Sacramento, who will be at YSU May 30-31.
Presentations: Each of the candidates are making public presentations during their visits to give everyone the opportunity to meet each candidate. Candidate schedules are on www.ysu.edu on the Web.
The provost oversees YSU's academic programs and is second in charge on campus behind the president. Dr. James Scanlon, YSU provost since 1992, left YSU in March to become president of Missouri Western State College.
YSU President David Sweet hopes to have a new provost in place by the start of the fall semester in August.
Meanwhile, Sweet met privately with trustees Monday afternoon to discuss finalists for vice president for financial affairs. Sweet is expected to make an appointment soon.
Finalists for that position are Dr. Richard Bebee, business dean of Salisbury State University in Maryland; James Fletcher, a private consultant and former vice president for business and finance at Morehouse College in Atlanta; and Terry Ondreyka, associate vice president of finance at West Virginia University.
