UPMC plans to honor14 nurses at event
CLARK, Pa. -- UPMC will honor 14 nurses for their contributions in patient care and clinical nursing at its annual excellence in nursing practice recognition celebration Monday at the Shiloh Room at Tara.
The event begins with a reception at 6:30 p.m. and the awards program at 7:30 p.m.
The event culminates National Nurses Week, which was last week.
The honorees, all registered nurses chosen by their peers, are Sharon Creeks, Atlantic, Pa.; Mary Cunningham, Pulaski; Carol Gravatt, Clarks Mills, Pa.; Sue Hamilton and Johnene Penn, both of Hermitage; Terri Landfried, Polly Lindey, Marie Milero, Terri Muscarella, Donna Shields and Rosemary Zerr, all of Greenville; Peggy Onderko, Jamestown; Linda Porter, New Wilmington; and Margaret Struna, Williamsfield, Ohio.
Warren school districtrecognizes students
WARREN -- The city school district's annual renaissance banquet honored 420 students in grades nine to 12 for academic achievement.
These seven students received the award for the fourth year in a row: Anthony Roshetsky, Joseph Roshetsky, Joseph Kosela, Amy Jo Jenkins, Tanee Osborne, Jody Stringer and Danielle Wojnarski.
The Roshetsky brothers maintained grade-point averages higher than 4.0 every grade period for four years.
More than 4,338 students have received the award since 1991.
Aromatherapy talk
WARREN -- A free talk on aromatherapy will be given at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Mary Ann Lopez-Pishotti, owner of Essential Earth in Howland, will discuss the benefits of aromatherapy in reducing stress and tension.
Verdict expected
AUSTINTOWN -- A verdict is expected this week in Mahoning County Area Court here in the case of Rosemarie Francis, charged with cruelty to animals.
Francis had a trial this week and Judge David D'Apolito took the matter under advisement before rendering a verdict.
Francis, formerly of Yorktown Lane, was charged last summer after authorities found more than 30 cats in her home.
Celebration to feature music, Mexican food
YOUNGSTOWN -- Dance to the music of Eco Latino y Los Ausentes del Norte to celebrate Baile de Cinco de Mayo, from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday in St. Rose of Lima Church Hall, 50 Struthers-Coitsville Road.
Beer, margaritas and Mexican food will be served. Cost is $15 in advance, $18 at the door. Advance tickets are available by calling (330) 799-4038 or (330) 726-4965 or at La Fiesta Mexican Restaurant, Casa Ramirez or All-Around Travel. The event is sponsored by Sociedad Mutualista Mexicana.
Mill Creek MetroParksoffers free firewood
BOARDMAN -- Mill Creek MetroParks will offer free firewood at its wood storage lot on West Golf Drive from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Individuals must cut and load the wood and only 15 vehicles will be allowed at one time.
Trucks larger than pickup size or those carrying trailers are prohibited. Cars may pull trailers smaller than 8 feet.
