'Taffetas' performance
NILES -- A special performance of "The Taffetas," a play about a ladies singing quartet of the 1950s, will be May 23 at Trumbull New Theatre, 5883 Youngstown-Warren Road. A light buffet will be at 7 p.m., and the performance will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10. Proceeds will benefit Sounds of Square County Chorus. Chaney singers compete
YOUNGSTOWN -- The 46 members of the Chaney High School Choral Company will leave May 23 for Florida to compete in Musicfest Orlando and to perform at Universal Studios City Walk. Musicfest is a national competition for choirs, bands and orchestras. The Chaney singers will compete in show choir and concert choir divisions; results will be posted at www.musicfestorlando.com. The choral company will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Chaney auditorium, 731 S. Hazelwood Ave., along with Chaney Chorale and Chorus.
South Range benefit
NORTH LIMA -- The Beatles tribute band A Hard Day's Night will play at a South Range Music Boosters benefit at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the South Range High School auditorium, 11836 South Ave. Opening acts will be Fixxtur and Dynasty. Tickets are $10.
Party Night performers
WARREN -- Singers, dancers and rappers may show off their skills at Casper Slide Party Night, a weekly line-dance event at 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Jimmy Chieffo's Restaurant and Lounge, 3860 Youngstown Road. Admission is $3. DJ Greg Johnson of Total Package Band will feature up to five vocalists per evening. Interested singers should contact Johnson in advance at (330) 702-0587. Johnson also needs dancers to appear in a video to accompany a line-dance song he's written.
