Fish commissionsets closed season
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission adopted amendments to fishing regulations for a trio of waters shared with border states during its spring quarterly meeting May 6-7 in Harrisburg.
The Commission authorized a closed season on Lake Erie walleye from March 15 through the first Friday in May, mirroring regulations already in place on Pennsylvania inland waters. The new regulation will take effect in 2002 as part of a larger joint effort by the states (and the province of Ontario) bordering Erie to conserve declining stocks of walleye throughout the lake.

Hall nominations open
Nominations are now being accepted for the Ohio Natural Resources Hall of Fame, the state's top honor for individuals, past and present, who have made significant contributions to Ohio's natural resources through management practices, environmental education or scientific achievement. Nominations will be accepted by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources through June 15.
For the first time, nominations can be submitted through the Internet at www.dnr.state.oh.us. Nomination forms are also available by calling (614) 265-6875 .
FISHING
Fantasy game
A news release from the In-Fisherman Professional Walleye Trail touts a new Fantasy Walleye Challenge, similar to fantasy football and baseball. The game is available at www.fbc2000.com. Players can win prizes based on points for big fish, limits and overall performance of the five-angler teams they select.
Participants can play for free, but those who pay the $9.95 tournament fee are eligible for prizes. The Fantasy Walleye Challenge champ will win a custom-engraved Remington 1187 shotgun, identical to the one earned by the In-Fisherman PWT Top Gun pro angler.
