Three Democrats and two Republicans are vying for the post as Lawrence County sheriff. An * indicates the incumbent:
DEMOCRATS
CHARLES ADAMO
Age: 60.
Home: 212 E. Home St., New Castle.
Employment: Lawrence County Deputy Sheriff.
Education: New Castle High School; he studied criminal justice at Butler County Community College and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Family: Wife, Cynthia DiCaprio Adamo; children, Christine, Laura and Charles; two grandchildren.
Priority: "I would focus on continued ongoing training for my deputies. There would be more use of the computer system to track office business such as bench warrants, gun permits, probation and parole."
ANTHONY MANGINO Sr.
Age: 63.
Home: 764 Lathrop St., New Castle.
Employment: Head of security for New Castle School District and constable in New Castle's 4th Ward.
Education: New Castle High School.
Family: Wife, Barbara, four children, Anthony Jr.; Joseph; William, James and Lisa.
Priority: "If I'm elected, I want to get tied into federal grants and I want to involve the sheriff's office in patrolling at night to protect the county."
FRANK W. ZONA
Age: 56.
Home: 506 Penn Ave., Ellwood City.
Employment: Investigator with the Pennsylvania Department of Auditor General.
Education: Big Beaver Falls High School; degree in criminal justice from Community College of Beaver County; attended night school at the University of Pittsburgh majoring in criminal justice; accounting classes at Community College of Butler County.
Family: Wife, Karen; sons, Justin and Jason.
Priority: "I would like to make the sheriff's department a full-service law enforcement agency and make it available to other police agencies in the county."
REPUBLICANS
ROBERT L. CLARK*
Age: 65.
Home: R.D. 5, Hartzell Road, New Castle.
Employment: Lawrence County sheriff.
Education: New Wilmington High School; two years at Youngstown State University; earned a bachelor of science degree at American University in Washington, D.C.
Family: Wife, Mary Ann; children, Robert Jr., Scott, Karen and Marcy; three grandsons.
Priority: "My priority would be to streamline the transport problems which arise due to lack of communication between the courts and the sheriff's office. I would also like to see some type of advanced scheduling that would allow for adjustments in more of a time frame than 24 hours or less."
VERN L. EPPINGER
Age: 63.
Home: Box 284 Oak St., New Bedford.
Employment: Equipment operator for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Education: Union High School.
Family: Wife, Wanetta; daughters, Veronica and Stacy.
Priority: To be cost-efficient and make the office accountable.
