Neshannock school plan has no tax increase

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Taxes would not be increased in a $12 million spending plan introduced for the 2001-02 school year in the Neshannock Township School District.
The budget, made public during a school board meeting Thursday, shows a 7.6 percent spending increase over last year's $11.2 million plan.
Real estate tax millage would be retained at 75 mills on an assessed valuation of $81,296,820. Last year there was a 3-mill tax increase.
"We're very happy with this budget," said Ronald J. Mento, school superintendent. "It's always an accomplishment when you can develop a spending plan without raising taxes."
The school board also made the following re-appointments for 2001-02: Atty. Richard Flannery, school solicitor; Philip Weiner and Company, district auditor; Peoples Bank of Western Pennsylvania, district depository; and Carol A. Robinson, school board secretary.
Also, school lunch and milk prices were increased 10 cents each, bringing elementary lunches to $1.45, high school lunches to $1.55, adult lunches to $2.30 and milk to 40 cents a carton.
