COLUMBIANA CO. Student faces threat charge

The boy believed he was being picked on, a prosecutor said.
LISBON -- A Beaver Local High School student faces a juvenile charge after being arrested in connection with threats to bring a gun to school.
The Columbiana County sheriff's department arrested the Negley youth, 15, Thursday at school after a school bus driver was approached by other students who related threats the sophomore allegedly made.
"The threat was that he was going to shoot some people," county juvenile Prosecutor Sherill Liebschner said today.
An investigation indicated that the boy felt he had been picked on by other students, and he threatened to bring a 9mm handgun to school and use it, Liebschner said.
The boy, who has no previous juvenile record, was not carrying a firearm at school Thursday.
He faces a juvenile charge of inducing panic, which carries a maximum penalty of 90 days of detention in a juvenile facility and probation until he is 21.
The boy, whose name is not being released, was held in the county juvenile center overnight.
Hearing: During a detention hearing this morning, the court ordered that the boy be detained at home pending an arraignment set for 10:15 a.m. May 24.
At that time, the boy will have an opportunity to admit or deny the charge against him.
