WARREN -- Police are searching for two men who robbed Video Update, 2320 Parkman Road N.W.
Police say the men, both holding guns, entered the store around 9:25 p.m. Tuesday and and escaped with an undetermined amount of cash from the clerk and a customer.
Boy gets chance to be Air Force pilot
VIENNA -- Over the past few months, Louis F. Hayes has learned to be pretty brave. So when the Youngstown Air Force Reserve Station made him an honorary 2nd Lieutenant, he was ready.
The 9-year-old Boardman boy is battling leukemia. He's been on a treatment schedule at Forum Health Tod Children's Hospital since March.
He visited the base Tuesday, though, as the featured guest for the Reserves' "Pilot of the Day" program, which offers a base tour to children who live with a life-threatening disease or illness.
He is the sixth child to participate in the program at the King Graves Road base since the program began last spring.
He rode in a C-130 cargo plane, operated a fire hose, and participated in a simulated parachute landing and small-arms programs.
"Pretty exciting," he said, but he's not sure he wants to be a pilot.
"When I was a couple years old, I did," Louis said. "But now I want to be a sports star."
Men take money,don't do work
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police here are cautioning residents to be on the lookout for warm-weather scam artists.
An 81-year-old East Midlothian Avenue woman told police two men in green uniforms offered to clean up her back yard for $150. They said they worked for the city.
The woman said the men took her money and said they would be back to do the work after they got something to eat. They never returned.
Farrell man heldon several charges
SHARON, Pa. -- Police have arrested Cory Wilder, 20, of Wallis Avenue, Farrell, on a warrant charging him with criminal conspiracy, simple assault and receiving stolen property.
Wilder was picked up Tuesday at New Castle Avenue and George Street and held overnight for arraignment.
Police said he and an unidentified man attacked and beat a Hermitage man in the 200 block of Mesabi Street around 3:30 p.m. April 29.
They took a cell phone from the victim's car, police said.
Pipe bomb hurts boy
HILLSVILLE, Pa. -- A boy playing in the Hillsville Quarry with two friends was hurt when a pipe bomb went off.
Pennsylvania State Police said the boy was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown for injuries.
The boy saw the pipe bomb and threw a rock at it, causing it to explode at 4:30 p.m. Sunday. His friends were not hurt. No other details, including the ages of the boys, were available from police.
Summer program
LISBON -- The Columbiana County Career Center will offer a Summer Hands-On program from 8 a.m. to noon June 4-7 for any pupil entering seventh, eighth or ninth grade in the fall.
Each program participant will choose four courses and spend one day in each. Cost is $20; registration deadline is May 30.
Course offerings include: auto body/collision repair, American Red Cross baby-sitting, auto mechanic technology, business technology, cosmetology, food service, landscaping/ horticulture, outdoor living, small engines and welding. Ruling in death
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police said a Summit Street man found dead in his home March 24 died of a drug overdose.
The Mercer County coroner's office ruled Tuesday that Thomas R. Muller, 39, died of a lethal mixture of cocaine, morphine and ethanol.
