REGULAR SEASON SOFTBALL Chaney sweeps Rayen to capture City Series crown

The champions posted 15-1 and 12-2 victories to finish 4-0 in the league.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Chaney High swept a doubleheader against The Rayen School Monday to win the City Series softball championship.
In a 15-1 win, Chaney's Tara Mshar and Danielle Warren combined on a one-hitter.
Mshar (7-2) homered, while Amanda Buzzacco and Jill Koncanyar both tripled and doubled. Amanda Yazbek also tripled for Chaney (12-6, 4-0 City Series).
Misha Stredrick tripled home Rayen's run in the sixth inning.
Chaney won the second game 12-2. Yazbek was the winning pitcher and improved to 4-2. Buzzacco homered, while Rene Talowitz, Angela Armstrong, Mshar and Danielle Warren doubled.
For Rayen (1-8, 0-4), Marcella Jones doubled.
Wilson 19-14, Youngstown Christian 7-10: YOUNGSTOWN -- Nicole Teasley was the winning pitcher in both games to improve to 5-6.
In the first game, Nancy Krespo and Jessica Martinez each hit a pair of doubles for Wilson (5-7).
Martinez tripled twice in the nightcap while Krespo and Samantha Bowers doubled.
Champion 8, Badger 6: CHAMPION -- Molly Barns' bases-loaded triple triggered Champion's five-run second inning.
The Flashes (17-2, 11-1 Trumbull Athletic Conference) overcame seven errors to remain in first place.
Barns (8-1) was the winning pitcher, throwing a three-hitter. She also doubled, as did Jessica Carpenter and Beth Rowland.
Lana Logan of Badger (3-13, 3-10) had two of her team's hits.
LaBrae 2, Lakeview 0: CORTLAND -- Sophomore Joy Hartman (2-2) threw a two-hitter and struck out a season-high 10 for the Vikings (10-5, 8-3 TAC).
LaBrae will play at Girard in the tournament on Thursday. Lakeview is 16-2, 13-2.
In the first inning, Rachel Higgins singled and came home on an RBI by Kendra Needles. Hartman drove in the second run.
Mooney 1, Mineral Ridge 0: MINERAL RIDGE -- Junior Melissa Larosa (9-1) got the pitching decision and singled home the only run in the fourth inning.
Mineral Ridge won its first 15 games before losing to Boardman Friday and Mooney (13-6).
Kristin Lakowski singled in the fourth for Mooney and freshman pinch runner Chakenya Howell stole second. Larosa drove in Howell.
Ashley Ault (15-2) held Mooney to four singles while Larosa and Danielle Kepics combined on a five-hitter.
South Range 2, Springfield 1: NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Sam Hoover had a triple and a single and Kristen Powers tripled home the winning run for the Raiders (11-11, 6-6 Inter-County League).
Jessie Clayton also doubled for South Range, which has won three straight.
Jenn Toth (10-10) threw a two-hitter at the Tigers (8-16, 6-7).
