REGULAR SEASON BASEBALL State-ranked South Range locks up Inter-County title



Shane Davis' clutch home run lifted Poland.
NORTH LIMA -- Tom Kimmel's bases-loaded double and Bobby Miller's two-run homer led the South Range High baseball team to a 10-0 victory over Mineral Ridge to clinch the Inter-County League championship.
Kimmel's three-run double in the second inning gave the Raiders (16-5, 13-1 ICL) a 4-0 lead.
Miller, the winning pitcher, homered in the fourth inning and threw a two-hitter. The Raiders are ranked 18th in Division IV in the coaches poll.
Fitch 12, Boardman 7: AUSTINTOWN -- Beau Banfield and Steve Burnich had three-run doubles in a nine-run sixth inning to lift the Falcons.
The Spartans (18-5, 7-1 Steel Valley Conference) led 6-3 after five innings.
In the sixth for Fitch (19-7, 5-3), Mike DeToro doubled and the next three hitters walked. Banfield doubled to tie the score at 6.
Kevin Pontius singled, Josh Starr walked and Burnich doubled for a 10-6 lead.
DeToro also homered for the Falcons, who have won nine in a row.
Giancarlo Silvestri homered and Matt Repec had two doubles for the Spartans.
Howland 11, Niles 7: NILES -- The Tigers (11-6, 6-2 Metro Athletic Conference) pounded out nine hits and Vasili Pahoulis improved to 3-0 with the win in relief.
Ron Hooper hit a three-run homer as Howland remained in a first-place tie in the MAC standings with Poland (7-3). Struthers is 6-3. Howland has games remaining against Struthers and Salem.
Jeff Stredney tripled to knock in two runs. Pahoulis also tripled and Matt Hundley doubled.
For Niles (10-11, 3-7), P.J. Rishel homered and doubled. Lou Viglio and Sam Gatta also doubled.
Poland 4, Canfield 3: POLAND -- Shane Davis' three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning won the game for the Bulldogs (14-5, 7-3 MAC).
Winning pitcher John Hay (5-1) tossed a seven-hitter. Cody Holecko's two hits included a double.
For Canfield, Scott Wadman doubled, while Doug Hudoba and Paul Suhar each had two singles.
Hubbard 5, Liberty 4: HUBBARD -- Garrett Cravener's two hits included a triple as he scored twice for the Eagles (11-6, 10-2 Trumbull Athletic Conference).
Marty Kanetsky's double knocked in three runs as Hubbard rallied for three runs in the fifth inning.
For Liberty (4-16, 3-9), Manny Rivera hit a first-inning grand slam.
Youngstown Christian 13, Wilson 9: YOUNGSTOWN -- Billy Lucas' two hits included a double, and he drove in six runs for Youngstown Christian (9-2-1).
Antonio DeJesus and Ryan Bailey each had two hits.
Losing pitcher Will Dean tripled for the Redmen.
West Branch 6, Beaver Local 1: LISBON -- Robert Stull tossed a five-hitter to lead the Warriors (14-9).
Josh Hurford had two hits, including a home run. Todd Mast's two hits included a double, and he drove in two runs.
