PREP TRACK Chaney begins title defense of City Series meet

The TAC, SVC and ICL will all hold their conference meets this week.
The City Series track and field meet, scheduled for Chaney High Stadium Tuesday at 4 p.m., starts a week of conference meets which will be the final tuneups for most area schools before district competition in two weeks.
Chaney's boys and girls won titles a year ago, but the 2001 event may be one of the closest meets in recent years in both divisions.
Dennis Reed of The Rayen School will be the athlete to beat in the 110-meter high hurdles (season-best 14.9 seconds) and 300 hurdles (40.4), while Wilson's Lloyd Hewlett returns to defend in the 100 (11.1) title and he's favored in the 200 (22.6).
Rayen's Jason Young (11.2) is also entered in the 100.
The Rayen girls have one of the area's best times in the 4x100 relay (51.5).
The Trumbull Athletic Conference also has it meet slated Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Lakeview High School.
Lakeview defends: Lakeview's boys and girls will return to defend titles.
Brookfield's Lou Scudere will be the athlete to beat in the 100 (11.1) and 200 (22.6). Lakeview's Bob Massuci (11.2) will challenge in the 100 and Anthony Worthy of LaBrae (22.8) will be a threat in the 200.
Danny Waldron (151 feet, 11 inches) and Ryan Murphy (150-7) give Lakeview a 1-2 punch in the discus.
Kaitlyn Nasci of Brookfield is the athlete to beat in the girls 100 hurdles (16.3).
Liberty's Jessica White (12.5) and Jasmine Smith (12.5) and LaBrae's Demira Byrd (12.8) are entered in the 100. White (26.3) and Smith (26.7) will also compete in the 200.
Wednesday, the Steel Valley Conference will hold its meet at Austintown Fitch High Falcon stadium at 5 p.m., while the Inter-County League holds it meet at Western Reserve High at 4 p.m.
Spartans in SVC: Boardman's boys and Mooney's girls will defend their SVC titles.
The Spartans' Shawn Carlson and Rich Lepore and Ursuline's Adam Chatman will be the top contenders in the hurdles.
Davanzo Tate (10.8) and Seth Steiner (11.1) of Fitch and Tjawonkher Putnam (10.8) of Warren Harding will contend in the 100.
Treymaine Warfield (50.9) and Mike Simpson (52.9) of Warren Harding, Tyler O'Halloran (51.9) of Boardman and Ceasare Brown (51.6) of Fitch should make the 400 interesting.
Amber Bland, Brittany Durkin, Gina Mavrikis, Monica Cuevas, Allison Brager, Ashley Kohler, Lauren Craig and Kristen Lauer make Boardman's girls a serious threat for the crown.
McDonald's boys and girls were 2000 ICL champs.
One of the area's top distance runners, senior Kim Nemergut makes her final appearance in the meet and she'll compete in the 4x800 relay, 1600 (5:20.7), 800 (2:26.9) and 3200 (11:30).
