ROMAN H. PASSEWITZ, 88 Recognized for his Masonic service



YOUNGSTOWN -- Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kinnick Funeral Home for Roman H. Passewitz, 88, of 429 Glacierview Drive, who died Friday afternoon in St. Elizabeth Health Center after a long illness.
Mr. Passewitz was born Sept. 29, 1912, in Minsk, Russia, a son of George and Tatiana Grenievich Passewitz, and moved to New Kensington, Pa., in 1921, and to Youngstown in 1936.
He attended New Kensington and Arnold, Pa., public schools, and worked for 39 years at U.S. Steel Ohio Works here before retiring as a supervisor in the mechanical maintenance division in 1975.
He had also worked for Alcoa in New Kensington for eight years.
A member of Mahoning United Methodist Church, he was a member of Meander Lodge No. 765 F & amp;AM in North Jackson, was excellent high priest of Youngstown Chapter 93 Royal Arch Masons, illustrious master of Youngstown Buechner Council 107 Royal and Select Masters and eminent commander of Niles Commandery 79 Knights Templar.
He was a member of the Past Masters Association of the 24th Ohio Masonic District, the Royal Arch Association of the 19th Ohio District, Ohio Priory 18, the Ida McKinley Chapter 229 and was past adviser to the Order of the DeMolay.
He was the recipient of numerous awards and recognition for his Masonic service, including the distinguished Knight of the York Cross of Honor.
He was also a member of Aut Mori Grotto, Al Koran Shrine of Cleveland, Youngstown Shrine Club, Elks Lodge 512 of New Kensington, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1673 of Youngstown, Mahoning Valley Industrial Management Association and AARP.
His first wife, the former Dorothy Cowan, whom he married in 1934, died in 1967.
His wife, the former Alice Lambert, whom he married in 1968, died in 1980.
He leaves two sons, Gregory R. of Dublin, Ohio, and Thomas R. of Austintown; a sister, Julia Lobur of Arnold, Pa.; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
A brother, Peter, is deceased.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be at 8 p.m.
