PHYLLIS E. NOLL, 56

CANFIELD -- Private services will be later for Phyllis E. Noll, 56, of New York City, formerly of Canfield, who died of cancer Thursday at her home.
Miss Noll was born June 14, 1944, in Canfield, a daughter of Myron F. and Dolors L. Noll. A 1963 graduate of Canfield High School, she attended Otterbein College and the Universite de Strasbourg, France.
She graduated with honors with a degree in geophysics and held a master's degree in education, both from Columbia University.
She was active in environmental issues, lectured to garden clubs and did survivalist camping. Her special interest was sharing her knowledge with young people and she directed Girl Scout camps in Ohio, New York and Connecticut.
She taught at the Museum of Natural History School on Long Island, N.Y., and in the 1960s, she helped with campaigns to improve air quality in Manhattan and to clean up the Hudson River.
In the 1970s, she worked for the Natural Resource Defense Council, was health inspector for the city of New York and manager in the 1980s for the New York nonprofit housing agency, U-Hab, overseeing rehabilitation of decaying buildings.
She was most recently employed by the law firm of Wickersham and Taft in New York. She was a former member of First Presbyterian Church of Canfield.
She leaves a sister, Suzanne Noll Parsons of Wayne, Pa.; and a brother, Christopher Noll of Canfield.
It was her wish to have her body donated to the Yale University Medical School, New Haven, Conn.
