BOARDMAN -- A pregnant woman was in serious condition Saturday night after the car she was in collided head-on with a pickup truck on West Boulevard, between Melbourne Avenue and Ronlee Lane, around 11:30 a.m.
Shantel Preston suffered a broken leg bone near her ankle and a slight head injury, according to Pellin Ambulance Co., which was called to take the woman to St. Elizabeth Health Center.
She had to be cut from the car by firefighters.
Police said the man in the truck was uninjured but declined to give any other information, saying the accident is under investigation.
YMCA will offerclasses for lifeguards
NILES -- Trumbull County YMCA will conduct lifeguarding classes May 13-27.
Participants must be at least 16, proficient in all swim strokes, able to swim 500 yards and be certified in CPR and first aid.

Weathersfield meetings
MINERAL RIDGE--The Weathersfield Township Planning Commission meeting Wednesday and the Zoning Board of Appeals meeting Thursday have been canceled for lack of business.
McDonald school board
McDONALD--The board of education will meet in special session at 6 p.m. Thursday in the high school library to accept bids for the site foundation and for brick materials for the $7.5 million elementary school to be built behind the high school stadium.
An Ohio School Facilities Commission grant totaling $14.5 million and a local bond issue for $2 million will fund a project that includes the new elementary, renovations at the high school and razing Roosevelt Elementary.
The board will meet in regular session May 17 at the high school at 5:30 p.m.
Welcome Center events

Rabies clinic planned
BEAVER, Pa. -- The Beaver County Humane Society will conduct a rabies clinic from noon to 3 p.m. May 19 at the shelter near Beaver Valley Mall. Cost is $7 for each vaccine. Animals must be at least 3 months and in a carrier or on a leash.
Route 19 work to end
ERIE, Pa. -- PennDOT announced that work on Pennsylvania Route 19 in Erie County on Peach Street from West 26th Street to Cherry Street is expected to wrap up around May 12, weather permitting. Work consists of paving all four lanes, with single lane closures.
Civil War Roundtable
MERCER, Pa. -- The Mercer County Historical Society's monthly Civil War Roundtable Discussion will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the society building at 119 South Pitt St. Doors open at 6:30. Bill Philson will show recently donated artifacts and explain the history behind the items.
The items were donated by James Stinedorf and belonged to Stinedorf's grandfather, who fought in the Civil War. Call (724) 662-3490.
