HAZEL KRICHBAUM ALEXANDER SILBERMANN, 87 Was area florist more than 62 years

NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Thompson Funeral Home for Hazel Krichbaum Alexander Silbermann, 87, of 5860 Timberline Court, who died Friday at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Mrs. Silbermann was born Nov. 30, 1913, in Youngstown, a daughter of Claude V. and Carrie Gaither Krichbaum, and she was a 1933 Boardman High School graduate.
A Youngstown-area florist for more than 62 years, she began floral school at age 13. She opened Hazel Krichbaum Florist in June 1933 and was one of the first women in Boardman to have her own business. In 1959, she moved her floral shop to Market Street.
After the business closed in December 1974, she worked for Dick Adgate Florists, the Main Event, Marian's Flowers in Struthers, Edward's Flowers and Burkland's before retiring in 1995.
She was a member and president of the Illalea Club and the Quota Club and was active in the floral industry. She was a member of the Northern Ohio district of Teleflora and the Mahoning Valley Florists Association.
She was a member of Central Christian Church, where she was deacon emeritus and floral designer.
Her first husband, Melvin J. Alexander, whom she married in September 1937, died in June 1955. Her husband, Frederick J. Silbermann, whom she married in June 1959, died in September 1967.
She leaves a son, James Alexander, with whom she made her home; and a grandchild.
