Woodcarver will lead workshop
CLARION -- Woodcarver Debbie Barr of Distant, Pa., will lead a workshop titled "Carving Figurines, Faces and Animals," from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday at Cook Forest Sawmill Center for the Arts' Site II location on Breezemont Drive.
"The focus of this workshop is to learn or improve the carving techniques," said Barr. "Choose a project from a wide variety of blanks offered, a figure or animal, or just focus on the face.
For the carver interested in carving faces, concentration will be on head proportions and body structure, with emphasis on facial expressions. If you want to carve an animal, focus will be on the structure and proportion of the animal."
Tools, sharpening, supplies, wood-burning and finishes will also be discussed during the workshop.
Group demonstrations and one-on-one instruction will be geared to each student's level.
Students are to bring their own tools if they have them, otherwise, some knives and hand tools will be available for purchase.
Blanks will cost between $5 and $6. The class fee is $50.
Preregistration is needed; call the center at (814) 744-9670.
