GEORGE E. LYRAS, 76
CAMPBELL -- Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church for George E. Lyras, 76, of 560 Neoka Drive, who died Thursday afternoon in Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
Mr. Lyras was born Jan. 5, 1925, in Oinoussai, Chios, Greece, a son of Capt. Elias G. and Irene Lemos Lyras, and came to Campbell in 1948. He was one of the founders of Corcon Inc., where he worked until his retirement in 1990. He was a life member and founding father of the church, where he served on its first council. He was a member of the Greek fraternal organization AHEPA, the IBPAT Painters Local #476 and the Oinousiotikos Society. He was a member of the Merchant Fleets after the War before coming to America.
Besides his wife, the former Aspasia (Betty) Valantasis, whom he married Dec. 4, 1949, he leaves three sons, Louis G. and Steve G., both of Campbell, and Gus G. of Lowellville; a daughter, Irene Psaras of Campbell; two brothers, Sozon E. of Campbell and Petros E. of Greece; and 14 grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Wasko Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be at 6:30 p.m.; and for one hour before services Monday in the church.
