CLYDE WILLIAM HULBERT, 76 Owned Clyde Hulbert Florists; involved in Rotary, community



HUBBARD -- Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home, for Clyde William Hulbert, 76, of 6166 W. Liberty St., who died Friday in Forum Health Northside Medical Center, after a long illness.
Mr. Hulbert, who was known as "Bill," was born Aug. 22, 1924, in Youngstown, a son of Clyde and Ruby A. Wolcott Hulbert, and was a lifelong area resident.
He was owner and operator of Clyde Hulbert Florists from 1946-60 with his father, and from 1960-91 with his wife, in the family business which was started in 1898 by his grandfather.
A 1942 graduate of Hubbard High School, he attended Kenyon College, Youngstown College and was a graduate of Brown School of Floral Design in Cleveland.
A charter member in 1956 of the Hubbard Rotary, he was its president in 1956-57 and had perfect attendance for 45 years. He served as district governor of District #665 of Rotary International and was on Club Service, International Service, Vocational Service and Community Service committees. He was named "Mr. Rotary," in 1996, and was awarded the Paul Harris Award in 1976. He was instrumental in founding Rotary Clubs in Hubbard, Howland, Brookfield, Kinsman and Poland, and was co-founder of the Youth Exchange Program of District #665 of Rotary International and had been host of a Rotary foreign exchange student.
A charter member and past president of Hubbard High School Band Booster sponsors, he had been vice president of the Visiting Nurses Association, was past chairman of Hubbard Service Unit of the Salvation Army, was past president of the Hubbard Area Chamber of Commerce, past president of Hubbard Community Fund Corp., and organized and was past president of the Hubbard Chapter of the American Field Service. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served as a commissioned officer in the Corps of Engineers. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hubbard.
Besides his wife, the former E. Pearl Reesman, whom he married June 17, 1947, he leaves a daughter, Suzanne Parris of Hubbard.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and for one hour before services Monday.
