ALTA L. LAVELLE, 87 Owner, operator of Alta's Restaurant

YOUNGSTOWN -- Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Shafer-Winans & amp; Lamer Funeral Home Cortland, for Alta L. LaVelle, 87, of Liberty Health Care Center, formerly of Park Vista Drive, Youngstown, who died Friday in Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
Mrs. LaVelle was born Sept. 10, 1913, in Girard, a daughter of David P. and Cora Shroads Gray, and was a lifelong area resident. She was owner and operator of Alta's Restaurant on U.S. Route 422 from 1946-56, and also worked at the Open Hearth Restaurant, Warren, as a waitress.
During World War II, she did factory work, and had been an Avon representative for more than 26 years. She was a 1934 graduate of Ohio Business Institute, Warren, where she received a certificate of secretarial skills.
Her husband, Thomas F., whom she married Oct. 7, 1955, died in 1979.
She leaves a sister, Elsie Bryn of Niles; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call for one hour before services at the funeral home.
