City council handled these matters at its meeting Wednesday:
Approved amendments for pending legislation that aims to significantly increase permit and annual renewal fees for massage parlors trying to locate in Warren. Amendments say such facilities will be prohibited within 1,000 feet of a church, school or public playground, and that the establishments cannot perform nonmedical massages on those under 18.
Passed a resolution to support a halt on the dumping of foreign steel in Warren, which council said is responsible for bankrupting plants such as CSC Ltd. in Champion, and the resultant loss of jobs.
Passed a resolution recognizing Gale Johnson and the local 9 to 5 chapter of the National Association of Working Women, of which Johnson is president and founder. Both were recognized for their efforts to promote workplace equality.
