EDWARD ANTHONY SIMKO, 78 Was merchandise coordinator at Higbee's



POLAND -- Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Patrick Church for Edward Anthony Simko, 78, of 1970 Wendy Lane, who died Wednesday morning at his residence.
Mr. Simko was born July 30, 1922, in Youngstown, a son of Stephen P. and Anna Grosz Simko, and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a 1940 graduate of South High School and graduated in 1948 with a bachelor of arts degree in merchandising from Youngstown College, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Kappa Fraternity.
He retired in 1982 as merchandise coordinator for the Higbee Co., formerly the McKelvey Co., where he worked 38 years. He then worked part-time for Buckeye Paints in Youngstown.
He was a member of the church, where he was a lector and usher and a member of its choir and Men's Club. He also was a member of the Youngstown Symphony Society, a former member of the Symphony Chorus, and a member of the Latin Culture Foundation and the B.P.O. Elks.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Marine Corps' 4th Division in the Pacific Theater, and was a member of its Division Association.
His wife, the former Helen DeCicco, whom he married Aug. 17, 1946, died Nov. 22, 2000.
He leaves three daughters, Jackie Lucarell of Girard, Mary Ann Simko of Boardman and Christine Simko Monfort of Columbus; four sons, Edward and Tom, both of Canfield, David of Boardman and Richard of Poland; a sister, Marilou Linsley of Bellefonte, Pa.; and fourteen grandchildren.
Two brothers, Steve and Robert, and a grandson, are deceased.
There are no calling hours. Arrangements are by Fox Funeral Home.
