Mercer County to begin enforcing 'left-lane' law

MERCER, Pa. -- Enforcement of Pennsylvania's "lingering in the left lane" law is set to begin on Pa. routes 18 and 60 and Interstates 79 and 80 in Mercer County.
Enforcement on Route 60 and 79 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Lawrence County was announced last week.
The law isn't new -- it was enacted in December 1999, but enforcement of the rule is just starting.
Lt. Francis H. Grolemund Jr. of the Pennsylvania state police barracks here said his troopers will begin enforcing it with written warnings or citations where appropriate.
The law says motorists must drive in the right lane on limited access highways, unless passing another vehicle or preparing to make a left turn.
The limit is two miles. Any more and it's illegal.
The state Legislature passed the law saying that lingering in the left lane has the potential to cause road rage and can create hazardous conditions for all members of the motoring public.
