MARY E. SHEPPARD, 78

YOUNGSTOWN -- Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Boardman Baptist Church for Mary E. Sheppard, 78, of 760 Crestview Drive, who died of cancer Saturday in University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, after a six-month illness.
Mrs. Sheppard was born April 1, 1922, in Youngstown, a daughter of John W. and Irene Walker. She graduated from the Youngstown School of Nursing and worked for the Youngstown Hospital Association for 43 years before retiring in 1989.
She was an Army nurse during World War II having served as a second lieutenant. A member of Evangel Baptist Church, she was a member the Golden Heirs and Retired Ohio Nurses Association.
Her husband, James R., whom she married Nov. 22, 1948, died Sept. 5, 1995.
She leaves a son, James R. Jr. of Boardman; two brothers, Robert Walker of Canfield and Dave Walker of Boardman; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchildren.
A brother, John Walker, and two sisters, Wilmine Mariotti and Jean Shaner, are deceased.
There are no calling hours. Arrangements are by Simpson Funeral Home, Monaca, Pa.
