Honored for support
Carl Nunziato of Youngstown, retired Army major and 1999 recipient of the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame Award, presented Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi with an artist's rendering of the Youngstown VA Clinic as thanks for Principi's support of veterans. Principi was deputy secretary of Veterans Affairs when Nunziato and other area veterans led the effort to establish the Youngstown VA Outpatient Clinic on Belmont Avenue.
Health evaluations
The Mobile Outreach Team of the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center will provide free health evaluations for veterans from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 3 at VFW Post 519, Grove City. Veterans should take their discharge papers.
MILITARY CADETS
Honored, appointed
* U.S. Military Academy Cadet Amber M. Raub (South Range High School '00) a daughter of Keith and Debra Raub, Columbiana, was named to the Dean's List for the fall semester 2000.
* Jonathan Barbour of Newark, Ohio, was appointed to the Air Force Academy's Class of 2005. Barbour is a grandson of Mike and Helen Terlecki Jr. of Struthers and Curtis and Helen Barbour of Youngstown.
TRAINING
Naval Justice School
Marine Corps 1st Lt. Kasey C. Shidel completed training at the Naval Justice School, Newport, R.I., and Officers Candidate School, Quantico, Va., and is serving in the Judge Advocate Division at Camp LeJeune, N.C. Shidel, a son of Terry and Suzanne Shidel, 11722 Akron Canfield Road, North Jackson, graduated from South Range High School and Akron University School of Law.
New Marines
Several area residents completed Marine Corps basic training at Parris Island, S.C. They include: Pfc. Edward L. Yerage (Beaver Falls High School '00), a son of Edward J. Yerage, 738 Vogan St., New Castle, and Louann Yerage, 1918 Fourth Ave., Beaver Falls; Pfc. Sashko P. Zlatanov (Greenville High School '99), a son of Binko and Anna Slatanov, 12 Manorview Drive, Greenville; Pvt. Jake E. Riney, a son of Leesa J. Riney, Rural Route 1, Sharpsville, and Donald E. Riney, Loogootee, Ind.; Pvt. Brian T. Valente, a son of Kevin Valente, 926 McKinnon Ave., East Liverpool, and Carolyn Valente, 7324 W. Ohio Ave., Lakewood, Colo.
