BENJAMIN EDISON SHEERER, 59
CANTON -- Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Highland Cemetery at New Salem, Pa., for Benjamin Edison Sheerer, 59, of Canton Health Care Center, who died of a heart attack Thursday afternoon in Mercy Medical Center, Canton, after being stricken at the care center, where he resided for the last year.
Mr. Sheerer was born April 19, 1941, in New Waterford, son of John Thompson and Lorena Smith Sheerer, and had lived in the area for many years. He graduated in 1959 as salutatorian at Mohawk Area High School, where he was vice president of the senior class. He was a four-year member of both the band and the choir, and played football for two years and basketball for three years. He received a four-year honor scholarship to Geneva College, Beaver Falls, Pa. He was a member of the Moravia Presbyterian Church, Wampum, Pa.
He worked for a number of years at U.S. Steel in Youngstown.
He leaves a sister, Grace Dickson, of Biloxi, Miss., and a brother, Paul, of Columbiana.
A sister, Ethel Marie Black, and a brother, Leonard, are deceased.
Arrangements are by Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home.
