April 5 program explores coal mines
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Discover what it was like to work the deep, dark, and wet coal mines of Pennsylvania 100 years ago.
Philip Mosley, associate professor of English, communications and comparative literature at Penn State University, Worthington Scranton, will explore the life and love of the Pennsylvania miner through documentary and feature film clips and musical selections April 5.
The presentation is a program of the Pennsylvania Humanities Council and is free. Refreshments will be served at 6:30 p.m. followed by the program at 7 p.m.
Afterward, meet the members of Slippery Rock Watershed Coalition, which has taken on the responsibility of improving Slippery Rock Creek. The partnership of local individuals, industries and agencies is dedicated to reversing the negative influences past mining has had on this area.
