Antiques show offers on-the-spot appraisals

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Got something old that you think is valuable?
You might want to haul it to Riverside Park in the borough April 22.
The Greenville Area Historical Society is bringing a local version of the popular "Antiques Roadshow" television program to the Recreation Center in the park that day.
The public is invited to bring in antiques and collectibles to be examined by appraisers who will determine an estimated value of those items.
There will be a $5 charge for each appraisal. There is a limit of two items per person and hand-carried items are preferred.
Registration is from 1 to 2 p.m. and five appraisers will be on hand to examine items between 2 and 6 p.m.
Preregistration isn't required but it is encouraged because only the first 150 items will be accepted for appraisal.
Deadline for preregistration is April 18 and can be made by contacting the Greenville Area Historical Society at P.O. Box 25, Greenville 16146. The application should include a description of the article to be examined, along with a picture if possible, and the $5 fee.
The show: The "Antiques Roadshow" television program, aired on PBS, takes appraisal experts around the country who set up two-day appraisal clinics in convention centers and other locations in major cities. They invite the public to bring in antique and unusual items for appraisal.
The historical society tried a similar effort last year and has expanded the operation this year by adding more appraisers and arranging a different method of displaying items brought to the clinic.
