TRACK AND FIELD Bob Curry elected to OHSAA Hall of Fame as track official



The retired sportswriter for The Vindicator has been an official for more than 30 years.
LEETONIA -- The sport of track and field always has been a big part of Bob Curry's life.
Now the retired sportswriter and assistant sports editor for The Vindicator is getting a reward for his life-long devotion to the sport.
A long-time track and field official, Curry has been elected to the Ohio High School Athletic Association Officials Hall of Fame.
The Leetonia resident, a native of East Liverpool, was among eight officials selected as the 13th hall-of-fame class by the OHSAA's Officials Advisory Committee.
Inductions: Official inductions will take place May 5 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Columbus.
The other picks are the late Michael Burbridge of Hilliard, Don Schirmer of Maple Heights, Robert Haskin of Steubenville, Roy Sloneker of Seven Mile, Bill Smith of Cincinnati, James Smith of Portsmouth and Charles Troike of Sandusky.
The eight selections raise the Hall's membership to 137 since its inception in 1989.
30-year veteran: Curry, a graduate of East Liverpool High who attended Ohio University, has been deeply involved in track and cross country officiating for more than 30 years. He still works both sports, including district and regional tournaments.
He has served as secretary of the Greater Youngstown Track Officials since 1977, after holding that same post with the Mahoning Valley Track Officials.
Curry also has been an important cog in the Northeast District Officials Committee, serving as president and on various committees.
He also still is involved with the Ohio Track & amp; Field & amp; Cross Country Officials Association, serving as president and clinic director.
In addition, Curry is the editor of the OHSAA Northeast District Athletic Board Newsletter.
