Search for mother
HOWLAND -- A township detective is looking for a woman in Columbus who may be the mother of a dead baby found at a Brookwood Drive N.E. home this past weekend.
Police Chief Steve Lamantia said this morning that Detective Paul Monroe went to Columbus Thursday and is hoping to find the woman today.
Lamantia noted the Trumbull County Coroner's office still doesn't know the cause of the baby's death. Coroner officials said it will take about a month before they know the results of the autopsy.
The badly decomposed infant was found at the house by Anthony B. Lentine Jr. around 5:15 p.m. Saturday.
Officials say the baby's body was in the house for about a year. The infant was wrapped in plastic garbage bags and was found in an unheated crawl space behind a closet, officials said.
Police believe a woman, who is in her 20s and a relative of Lentine's, may have given birth to the baby. Police would not say how the woman was related to Lentine. Lentine has not returned a telephone call seeking comment.
Rate increase
WARREN -- The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio has approved a 23.9 percent rate increase for Masury Water Co.
Masury sells bulk water to Trumbull County, which resells it to 3,200 residential, industrial and commercial customers.
The PUCO's decision Thursday was made over the objections of Trumbull County commissioners.
Masury water had sought a 33.8 percent increase, but the PUCO staff and Ohio Consumers' Counsel agreed to recommend 23.9 percent.
Masury Water said it needs the increase to offset the cost of equipment.
Commissioners said that Masury Water doesn't have any equipment because it's is a fully owned subsidiary of Consumers Pennsylvania Water Co., Shenango Valley Division.
Pupils to be honored
WARREN -- The community will come together to recognize outstanding city schools students for their academic achievements.
An awards banquet will be Tuesday at Warren G. Harding High School for pupils who participate in the school's Destination Imagination and Prep Bowl competitions.
Earl Maxin, co-owner of Klivan's Jewelers, came up with the idea for the awards ceremony and has purchased awards and pins to be handed out to students.
Maxin is also a member of Harding's strategic planning team.
The 6 p.m. ceremony will take place in Harding's third-floor media center.
The purpose of the banquet is to honor academic achievements for pupils who took part in the Destination Imagination competition in March at Youngstown State University and those who competed in the academic Prep Bowl at Trumbull Career and Technical Center in February.
Donations for the event have been made by DiLucia's, Giant Eagle and Coca Cola.
